Iloilo's Dinagyang festival has grown to be one of the country's most spectacular cultural and religous festivals. Highlighting the thanksgiving celebration in honor of Senyor Santo NiƱo, which showcases not only the rich heritage of Iloilo but also shows the passionate devotion and the fun-loving spirit of the Ilonggos.

The Dinagyang festival is much awaited by many Filipinos. Aside from the locals, many would come and visit the city to experience the heart warming and festive aura of the celebration. It is widely known that during the 4th weekend of January, the city of Iloilo becomes more alive  with full of events and activities that people look forward to. The creative costumes and energetic performance of the tribes shows the colorful history of the town and of the people. Through the years I've seen how our culture and the festival itself was preserved, cultivated and nurtured to be the pride of the city.

For the nineteen years of my existence, this is actually my first time to Dagyang (go out) and got really excited to brave the city of people, I mean Iloilo haha. Not because I didn't want to, but cause my grandparents prefer watching the performance of the tribes at home. and mostly likely cause they can't really handle the heat and not to mention the traffic conditions. This year I actually tried a lot, from the food festivals to walking in the city along with  a lot of people. It was hot but I actually didn't mind. Finally, I got to experience the Dinagyang vibe. And you know what? I'm happy to say that I had fun and I'm now looking forward for next year. Hopefully I'd get to have a new amazing experience. As an Illongga, I can't seem to put into words how proud I am for our city and I am very lucky to be able to witness this festivity annually. To the next Dinagyang experience, Hala bira, Iloilo!
